WHAT CAN I CRAM FROM THIS SEMESTER INTO ONE POST?
This semester has been busy, like usual, and hopefully my actual website will be up and running by the end of the week. In the meantime, here is a glimpse at more recent work.

FOUND A LITTLE. WORK A LOT.
Talk like caveman.
But seriously, my friend has been a summer art angel. He has his own studio!!! With that, I am STILL working on Assets and actually think for my sanity I'm going to step away from it for a minute. While I'm away from it, I finally have found out what I would like to do with my mobius strips of wood. Take a look.
sidenote: I've been posting doodles, more studios pics, and of course selfies on my instagram. Feel free to invade my personal life. username: shelbenstein

And the continued work on Assets

UPDATES TO THE PORTFOLIO
Assets is still in progress. Also, today was clean-up day at the school studio, but I'm hoping to get back into/continue to grow my personal metals studio. Here's to future art! *toasts with coffee mug because it's finals week!

TRANSIENT STATES
I took part in an exhibit in downtown Phoenix last Friday. The show was a nice way to introduce my math peers and family to the art world. Is it sad to say that the location was the best part? The work was amazing, but I'm probably a little bitter that my piece, Assets, wasn't ready to show in time. I made the decision to put in another piece the morning I went to install and chose this piece because it has it's own stand and I would not have had time to make a pedestal in time. Overall, it was a good decision. I have a certain way I would like to display, Assets, so hopefully I'll have time this summer to make the necessary parts.
Here are pictures from the show:
The orb can spin on the top, which I achieved by using telescoping rod as the base. The second picture is my friend demonstrating different bases.
I have been terrible at documenting Assets, but these are the in-process pictures I currently have at hand.

Teeeee N' Aaayyyy
I was assigned to make a human container and my human container is a way for me to explore anti-rape culture as well as assets that society would like to judge women on. Through tumblr, I have become familiar and passionate about the idea that we as a society should teach Don't Rape as opposed to Don't Get Raped. Taking it to an extreme, I wanted to display the treasured tits and ass so when the girl is inside, would people listen to what she has to say, or would the primal instincts takeover?
I am a bit concerned with the S and M factor to this structure, but I hope it will take on more of an activist stance instead of a sexual one.

When I'm at the metal supply store, I feel like a kid in a candy store.

I DONT SEE NUTHIN WRONG WITH A LITTLE BUMP AND GRIND
except I do, and apparently so does everyone else in the studio. I have maybe put in a grand total of 8 hrs of grinding so far and even though I do it outside, I feel like I'm getting the side-eye from my peers.
Fed up and sore, I thought I could get away with putting this through the sand blaster, but it just ended up looking ugly and cheap and didn't hide parts that I gave up grinding. Changed plans and now I'm back to being happy with the results. I have also scratched the suspension idea and welded a ball bearing to the base and will put that on a rod and have a spinning orb. For grading purposes, this is where I'll finish this piece, but there is a show in May that I would like to put this piece in, but I will be altering it a bit. Hopefully I'll find time to work on that soon. In the meantime, this is where my orb-y spaceships are at right now.
